Saturday August 15, (featured in the NYTimes as a top summer activity- see images below) join two parades at Governors Island. At 2pm is an explorative tour of Governors Island art houses, House Crawl Art Parade. It features a 3PM performance by Pinc Louds in the Parade Grounds. The second event at 7PM is an orphic eco luminary species parade on the island’s north shore with city views, Flaming Creatures 4.
Flaming Creature Crawl 4, is an Aug 15, 7pm sunset illuminated sculpture parade curated by Sally Beauti Twin. Batiks, giant puppets and luminaries will be held depicting the flora, fauna and celestial bodies of Governors Island. The grand attempt of this mysterium is to represent the 1,200 species of the island. Participants will be costumed. Music Leader is bagpiper, David Watson.
Projections and shining lights will be green powered with 1000s of LEDs and solar charged batteries. The Itenerant Signal Institute will broadcast positional environmental data live. Parade art will be built from postconsumer materials (thanks MFTA). Click here for prior parade images.
